Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for enhanced ecological conservation and sustainable green development during his recent inspection visit to Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia. His visit underscored the importance of wetland restoration, biodiversity protection, and the development of environmentally friendly computing infrastructure.
At the Huangqihai Lake nature reserve, Xi reviewed ongoing efforts to restore the lake, which had been threatened by climate change and other pressures. Conservation initiatives have successfully expanded the water body over the years. He stressed the critical role of implementing China’s wetland protection law and maintaining strict ecological protection boundaries, advocating for prioritizing natural restoration in degraded wetlands, supplemented by scientific intervention when needed.
Xi’s visit also included a tour of the Chahar High-Tech Development Zone, where he assessed progress on the “East Data, West Computing” initiative. This project aims to optimize the distribution of computing resources across China. Xi urged authorities and industry players to ensure the efficient operation of completed projects and to adhere to schedules for ongoing developments. He highlighted the importance of promoting efficient, environmentally friendly, and secure computing infrastructure to bolster China’s digital economy while aligning with sustainable development goals.
Additionally, Xi reviewed local agricultural and livestock products, encouraging officials to strengthen connections between production and markets to boost the incomes of farmers and herders. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance rural economic conditions and improve livelihoods in the region.
