In a recent meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed Russia’s full support for China as it prepares to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Shenzhen. Lavrov’s commitment came during discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where they explored ways to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation on international and regional issues.

Wang Yi highlighted the productive meetings held earlier this year between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which have set a strategic direction for their countries’ comprehensive partnership. He expressed optimism that China’s APEC host year would yield positive outcomes, thanks to support from Russia and other economies, by bolstering regional cooperation and promoting economic development in the Asia-Pacific.

Both foreign ministers underscored the importance of collaboration within multilateral organizations such as the United Nations, emphasizing the shared goal of promoting multilateralism and improving global governance. Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s willingness to strengthen coordination with Beijing through platforms like the G20, APEC, and BRICS.

The meeting also served as a platform to exchange views on upcoming high-level diplomatic engagements, as well as regional and international challenges. This dialogue reflects the ongoing efforts by China and Russia to deepen their strategic coordination and enhance cooperation on global economic and political issues.
