China Criticizes EU’s Proposed Trade Measures, Warns of Economic Impact

by admin477351

China has issued a warning to the European Union over its reported plans to implement a trade mechanism similar to the United States’ Section 301. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce expressed concern that new trade restrictions targeting Chinese goods and companies could negatively impact China-EU economic relations and disrupt global supply chains.

The Ministry described the potential measures as unilateral protectionism, cautioning that they could hinder ongoing trade negotiations between Beijing and Brussels. China urged the EU to resolve economic and trade differences through dialogue and adherence to international trade rules.

The proposed EU trade instrument is intended to provide the bloc with additional means to investigate and respond to what it perceives as unfair trade practices. Experts believe this proposal might serve more as a tool to apply negotiating pressure on China rather than signify an immediate shift in EU trade policy.

In response, Beijing stated it would closely observe the situation and hinted at possible countermeasures to safeguard Chinese industries if the EU were to enact discriminatory restrictions against Chinese companies or products.
