Revolutionary 100 V GaN Power Stages Enter Mass Production for Motor Drives

by admin477351

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has commenced mass production of its latest 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage IC family, which includes the EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111 models. These ePower™ Stage ICs are tailored for high-performance motion-control applications, integrating high-side and low-side eGaN® FETs, gate drivers, and level-shifting circuitry into compact QFN packages that enhance thermal performance. Operating up to 100 V, these devices offer current ratings of either 35 A or 20 A, depending on the model, aiming to boost power density and efficiency while reducing system complexity.

Equipped with features such as fast fault shutdown and safe gate control during power-loss conditions, the power-stage ICs also support continuous 100% duty-cycle operation. They provide single-input PWM options, beneficial for multi-axis motor-control applications. To complement these new ICs, EPC has launched the EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131 three-phase BLDC motor-drive evaluation boards. These platforms are built around the fresh power-stage ICs and come with gate drivers, current and voltage sensing, housekeeping power supplies, temperature monitoring, and protective functions.

The new devices and evaluation boards are available through EPC’s global distribution network, including major distributors like Digi-Key and Mouser. These products are intended for use in applications such as humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters. Pricing for the EPC23108 and EPC23109 starts at US$3.70 each, while the EPC23110 and EPC23111 are priced at US$2.47 each, based on orders of 3,000 units. The evaluation boards EPC91128 and EPC91129 are listed at US$640 each, with the EPC91130 and EPC91131 available for US$630 each.

EPC is also releasing a technical white paper, available in both English and Chinese, which details the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms for these new integrated GaN power-stage ICs. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to advancing GaN-based power solutions across various sectors.

Founded in 2007, Efficient Power Conversion is a semiconductor company specializing in enhancement-mode gallium nitride (eGaN®) power devices and integrated circuits. The firm develops GaN-based solutions for a wide range of applications, including DC-DC converters, lidar, motor drives, robotics, drones, and satellite systems.
