China has voiced its disapproval of a proposed piece of U.S. legislation that seeks to impose sanctions on major purchasers of Russian oil and natural gas, a move that could impact Chinese companies. The Chinese government has vowed to take all necessary actions to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of its enterprises.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, China is strongly against any unilateral sanctions that do not have a basis in international law or the endorsement of the United Nations Security Council. Lin emphasized that such measures lack legitimacy and undermine the global legal framework.
The legislative proposal in the United States aims to target some of the largest global importers of Russian crude oil and natural gas, with China being one of the key countries potentially affected. This development highlights the ongoing geopolitical tensions surrounding energy trade and economic sanctions.
Lin further cautioned against the use of double standards and coercive tactics, stating that such strategies would ultimately prove to be counterproductive. He reiterated China’s stance against what it considers to be unlawful unilateral sanctions, underscoring the nation’s commitment to defending its economic interests on the global stage.
