Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing has reaffirmed China’s commitment to international cooperation in advancing fusion energy, calling it a key component of peaceful nuclear technology development.
Speaking at the opening of the 30th IAEA Fusion Energy Conference and the second ministerial meeting of the IAEA World Fusion Energy Group in Chengdu, Vice Premier Zhang highlighted fusion energy’s potential to drive sustainable global progress. He reiterated China’s willingness to work closely with other nations to promote scientific and industrial breakthroughs in the field.
“Fusion energy is a vital direction for peaceful nuclear use,” Zhang said, noting that China is ready to support global initiatives including the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative.
Zhang also emphasized the importance of integrating fundamental research with industrial innovation to accelerate fusion energy development worldwide.
On the sidelines of the conference, Zhang met with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to discuss enhanced cooperation and practical collaboration between China and the international nuclear energy community.
