Chinese President Xi Jinping left the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for Beijing on Thursday, concluding events marking the region’s 70th founding anniversary. Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, received a warm farewell in Urumqi, the regional capital, with crowds of people from diverse ethnic groups waving red flags and celebrating at Urumqi Tianshan International Airport.

Following Xi’s instructions, a central delegation led by Wang Huning will visit various parts of Xinjiang from Thursday to Sunday to convey greetings to people of all ethnic groups and sectors of society.
