The first glimpse of the concluding chapter in Denis Villeneuve’s ambitious sci-fi trilogy, “Dune: Part Three,” has been unveiled with its initial trailer. This film adapts Frank Herbert’s “Dune Messiah” and picks up nearly two decades after “Dune: Part Two.” It continues to follow Emperor Paul Atreides as he grapples with the grim aftermath of a galaxy-spanning holy war waged in his honor.

The trailer paints a vivid picture of Paul’s escalating solitude as insurrection spreads throughout his realm, with his connection to Chani showing signs of strain. As political tensions rise and visions of the future haunt him, Paul is compelled to reckon with the repercussions of his past choices while striving to shield those dearest to him.

A notable revelation from the trailer is the unexpected return of Duncan Idaho. Despite his demise in the first film, Duncan reemerges as Hayt, a “ghola” recreated by the enigmatic Tleilaxu. His return appears to be an emotional moment, yet it is part of a larger plot to destabilize Paul’s reign.

Viewers are also introduced to formidable adversaries to the Emperor, including Princess Irulan, Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam of the Bene Gesserit, the Spacing Guild’s Navigator Edric, and the shapeshifting Scytale. These characters unite to form a formidable coalition aimed at toppling House Atreides.

Further heightening the drama, the trailer hints at the future of the Atreides lineage as Paul and Chani ponder names for their prospective child. Fans get a glimpse of the feared Stone Burner, a weapon of catastrophic potential that can cause widespread devastation and permanent blindness, suggesting a pivotal event from the novel. Anya Taylor-Joy’s portrayal of Alia Atreides takes on greater prominence, showcasing her as a commanding figure and one of Paul’s most trusted allies. The film, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling, Robert Pattinson, Javier Bardem, and Anya Taylor-Joy, is slated for a theatrical and IMAX release in December 2026.
