Trump’s Peace Push: “Russia is There,” So Move Fast

by admin477351

President Donald Trump is ramping up pressure on Ukraine to finalize a peace deal, warning that Russia’s current willingness to negotiate may not last. Speaking on Thursday, Trump urged Ukraine to “move quickly,” noting that Russia is currently at the table but could change its mind. This urgency precedes talks in Miami this weekend.

The upcoming meeting will involve US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and a Russian delegation. It follows recent discussions in Berlin with Ukrainian representatives. The coordinated diplomatic efforts highlight the administration’s focus on ending the conflict swiftly.

“They’re getting close to something,” Trump observed, but he cautioned against delay. “Every time they take too much time, then Russia changes their mind,” he warned. The statement implies that the specific terms currently available might be withdrawn if Ukraine does not agree soon.

However, the issue of territorial control remains a major hurdle. Ukraine has vowed not to cede any territory, especially the Donbas. Russia, in contrast, insists on keeping the land it occupies and demands further concessions. Bridging this gap is the central challenge for negotiators.

Russia currently occupies Crimea and parts of four other regions. Moscow has demanded that Ukraine withdraw from the Donbas region entirely. With reports that Russian negotiators are unwilling to compromise, Trump’s call for quick action suggests he wants Ukraine to seize the deal currently on the table.
